Harold Hill is the name of the one of the post-war housing estates erected in East London to house people living in slums in the city. The area suffers from high crime rates and vandalism, and it is generally regarded as one of the most deprived parts of the borough of Havering, however the council have pledged to improve things by creating new schools, centres for young people and green spaces. The area also suffers due to poor transport links – there is no tube or rail – meaning the commuter-led gentrification that has happened in other areas hasn’t taken place here.
