Hounslow’s proximity to Heathrow has meant that this quiet (save for the sound of planes flying overhead) suburb has recently acquired several gleaming hotels of varying star ratings to cater to London’s visitors. Aside from the air traffic, Hounslow is a leafy district as it practically borders the countryside; many of its inhabitants work at Heathrow or are first time buyers attracted by the affordability of the area’s housing and undisturbed by being under the airport’s flight path. The high street has the usual retail suspects while the residential streets are lined with a combination of Victorian terraces and more recent semi-detached homes; back in 2007 The Times claimed that buyers outnumbered sellers by 3 to 1.
