The name Mayfair was derived from the annual fair in May that was introduced to the area in 1686. Traditionally, the area housed some of the most powerful people in the. Today, the district is primarily commercial with many of the mansion houses having being converted into offices; it also contains some of the most luxurious and famous hotels in the country.
