Its amusing name makes it the butt of many a joke, however those who live here know Penge is replete with historical buildings, pubs and green spaces. It was also a highly fashionable district in the Victorian era, due to its proximity to Crystal Palace. Having fallen out of favour for much of the 20th century, it seems things are looking up for this south London region. Multi-ethnic stores and pound shops are starting to compete for space with independent coffee shops, and the lack of a tube means house prices are considerably lower here than many of its neighbours.
