Plaistow

Your All In London guide to Plaistow

Plaistow has long been one of London’s most deprived areas, however some are optimistic that the hosting of the Olympic games in neighbouring Stratford will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy. It’s mostly residential, therefore there is little in the way of shops or things to do, with most of the outlets catering to the area’s large ethnic community, meaning there are several decent Indian restaurants. In terms of housing, prices are affordable to first time buyers even if the area isn’t immediately appealing, and there is a mixture of purpose built apartment blocks and Victorian houses; some of the older council blocks are being torn down and rebuilt in a bid for regeneration.
