In-keeping with the London habit of naming an area after its nearest train/tube station, Silver Street is now the name of the Edmonton neighbourhood that surrounds the station of the same name. The fact that property prices are considerably lower than in inner London and that the overground connects to Liverpool Street in 20 minutes has meant that the area is slowly becoming popular with commuters who work in the city; that being said, it’s a long way off being fashionable. It is thought that the name “Silver Street” derives from the silversmiths that used to live here in the 17th century or thereabouts.
