Upton Park is best known for being the home of West Ham United Football Club, founded in 1895, and unfortunately the 2009 riots that occurred when fans invaded the pitch of a West Ham vs Millwall game. So resounding was the incident that a film about hooliganism starring Elijah Wood was titled Green Street Holigans, named after the Upton Park’s main shopping street. The area is home to a large Asian community, and to a smaller contingent of Afro-Caribbeans, which is evident in the shops and food outlets of Green Street; additionally there is a food and clothes market on Queens Road, however you won’t find many high street shops.
