Right at the very end of the Docklands Light Railway sits Woolwich, an area best known for the Royal Arsenal, which dates back to the 15th century and was responsible for manufacturing arms for the British Army. Once a thriving district with numerous shops, businesses and recreational activities, Woolwich fell into decline in the 1990s, caused by the closure of several companies. More recently the area has been redeveloped which has resulted in new shops opening and a boost to the economy of the area, however it still has a long way to go if it wants to rival its more affluent neighbour, Greenwich.
