Gourmet burgers with discerning toppings
Haché was conceived way before the current craze, but this chain of three restaurants (for they are restaurants rather than fast food/burger joints) keeps popping up on the same lists as current favourites MeatLiquor and Hawksmoor. More importantly their beef burgers, which are made from Scotch steak, are extremely gratifying, with a discerning eye towards toppings: Cajun spices and guacamole make up the Mexican, Parmesan, Mozzarella and sun-dried tomato tapenade top the Milano burger, while another has Reblochon cheese and red onion chutney.
There is a choice of crispy ciabatta bun or the softer, slightly sweeter brioche. The latter turns out to be perfect for the Louisiana, which has crunchy peanut butter completely covering the patty and overpowering the mature Cheddar. The result is a slightly sweetened, yet strangely tasty burger. Even better is the supremely rich Spanish, with a wedge of grilled creamy goat’s cheese dunked over a large red pepper. The meat is grilled to your liking; although the menu states their standard is medium well, this turns out to be a tad overdone and medium rare fares better, producing juicy meat with a crispy exterior.
It’s not all about beef however, for there are burgers made from duck, lamb, chicken, tuna, and for vegetarians, falafel or Portobello mushroom. Then there are the sides, like crispy sweet potato frites, grilled halloumi and chips with the skin on. Averaging £9 for a burger, it’s more expensive than a late night junk food joint, but excellent value considering the clever flavours.

London's best beef burgers
What makes the ultimate burger? It's quite possibly a little bit of meat alchemy.
Hache re-define burgers are gourmet food; choose from beef, chicken, lamb, duck, tuna, Portobello mushroom or a falafel as your patty. Toppings include Reblochon cheese and caramelised onion, and the "Spanish" with roasted red peppers and goat's cheese. As well as this Camden branch, there are others in Shoreditch, Clapham and Chelsea, all frequently packed.
Where to get a meal before a gig in Camden
Big meal + jumping up and down = fun times!
We strongly recommend looking at Hache’s menu before you visit, because trying to choose one of their many burgers while there might make you miss the band you’re planning to see. Toppings are influenced by ingredients from all over the world, so you’ll find Catalan burgers with chorizo, Milano with mozzarella and Parmesan shavings, and the Louisiana with crunchy peanut butter. There are also lamb, chicken and veggie burgers.
