I totally agree with the two latest reviews, something has happened here that detracts from what it used to be. It used to be a help yourself buffet to about a dozen dishes, for the price, not haute cuisine, but always tasty and filling. Now there has either been a change of ownership or chef or both, and so I agree that you are just offered rice or noodles base then they serve you with 3 dishes of your choice, so no self service nor wide choice. As the other reviewers have said quality and quantity has diminished, I would not return unless they return to the previous successful formula,

This is certainly not gourmet. It is cheap food cooked for the undiscerning office worker on a short lunch break. The quality of the food needs to improve rapidly.

I've visited this buffet restaurant many times over the past few years. My last visit was today and I offer a review of my experience as follows. In general the quality of the food is not as good as it used to be. The rice is not well cooked and some dishes on offer are lukewarm at best. You do not always get asked what you'd like to drink and when paying there is a tendency for one of the female staff not to provide all the due change - even if it's only 1p. Overall from being a very good Chinese buffet restaurant a few years ago it is now so disappointing that I no longer intend to visit

I was taken to the Gourmet by a work colleague about 2-3 years ago now, and I was amazed at the quality of the food, it is very good food and great value for money. Now when I am working in the area, I always pop in for a sit down and introduce others.
