This Chinese restaurant is supremely luxurious, with an expensive wine list and things like lobster, foie gras and wagyu beef on the menu. But there’s more to Kai than this, as classic dishes are given modern, elaborate twists, like for instance the spare ribs in sweet and sour sauce with almonds, cress and dried fruit. Desserts are a mixture of fruity and refreshing and incredibly indulgent, with things like almond panacotta and Amedei chocolate fondant with pistachio.
The prices are typical of Mayfair, with starters costing between £13 and £24 and mains anything between £16 and £75.

I used to go to Kai quite often as I visit London once or twice a month and it's walking distance to Hilton and Intercontinental hotels where I stay. First time I was impressed with the food, atmosphere and service altogether so I went there again and again. Unfortunately, over next 6 months or so I realised that the quality of both food and service is going down while prices are going up. as well as one by one some nice complementary things were disappearing from the service... Last time I was there in the month of July and will probably not return anymore. My vegetables were undercooked, tough and impossible to cut, I didn't know how to eat it! On the good side, the main course was good and little dessert of milk pudding and fruits was very nice. But overall now Kai is not worth the money, sorry.

I went to Kai earlier in the year. Friends had raved on about it. Personally I found the food somewhat salty / tasting of MSG and there was nothing exceptional. We sat downstairs and was not happy when the staff started the ironing the tablecloths about 5 metres away.
