These exist?!?!

This all-day restaurant and cafe specialises in providing affordable meals in posh areas - they have branches in Knightsbridge, St. John's Wood, South Kensington, and this one near Park Lane. It's all about comfort food, so think all day full English breakfasts, Shepherd's pies and fish and chips.

We've mostly had coffee and cakes here recently (excellent), but thought we'd try dinner this evening. We found the service slow and the food below the standard that you could prepare yourself at home (the escalope was crispy/burnt; spaghetti apparently from a can)- avoid the meals but enjoy the coffee, cakes and fabulous decor. Most of the clientele appear to be refugees from local five star hotels on Park Lane, who are unlikelty to return anyway.

Myself and my daughter went there on Friday The 27th March 2009. One of the reasons we went was that it was apparently a favourite eating place of the late Freddie Mercury of whom I am an ardent fan.I read about it in a book written by Mercury's valet Peter Freestone and decided that if i was good enough for him it certainly was for me.
I loved the ambience of the the restaurant and my daughter who is 25 years old(in case you were mislead) also thought that the old world feeling was very much still there, with high ceilings and motifs on the walls as well.
The food was very nice and the service was efficient. One did not get that"lunch hour rushed" feeling there, taking into into consideration that we were there at midday. We felt that we could have stayed there chatting for as long as we wanted.I could see the late Freddie languishing there in full reign on an afternoon sipping Earl Grey. We will be going there again on our next visit from Cork- Southern Ireland
