By some margin BASE provide the best quality cooking in Hampstead, and is in a different league from chains like Carluccios which has recently opened nearby. All the food is freshly prepared on site, with a wide choice of pasta, fish, meats, salads and other interesting mediterannean inspired dishes. The restaurant itself is small and intimate which makes it ideal for a quiet romantic evening out, and although it is packed solid every lunchtime, we can usually get a table most evenings (except saturdays) without having made a reservation in advance. We particularly enjoy the wine list, where they apply a modest fixed mark-up on their wines making the better bottles particularly good value.

Lovely food, excellent service, but this restaurant doesn't seem to aspire to anything beyond being a run-of-the-mill Hampstead eaterie. An up-market greasyspoon. We had a nice meal, although we had to endure horrible muzac throughout. The winelist is short but good value. This establishment could make itself into a really good venue if only they would get rid of the muzak and take themselves more seriously as a restaurant.
