Is a handy place to eat as it's right by Turnpike Lane tube and served by a number of buses.
The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced and as they don't serve alcohol you can bring your own and there is an off licence next door.
You are asked to write down your order so they don't make any mistakes in your order.
I would recommend the Daal Soup, mixed bhaji's or Gol Gappa to start. The Masala Dosa is on the starters for some reason but it's far too filling to be a starter so I have it as a main dish.
I am a regular there and we bring all our friends and family members when they

My favourite Indian restaurant in the UK and the only vegetarian Indian restaurant i've found outside of India that has varda on the menu. The food is simple, delicious and tastes like Indian Indian food rather than British Indian. My favourites are the papri chat, varda, dosas, sag dal and the pumpkin paneer.

As a carnivore, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. We had freshly cooked poppadoms with their special chutney, followed by mushroom curry and chickpea curry with pilau rice. All excellent. £1.25 corkage on a bottle of wine. Total bill was less than 14 quid... what more can you say. Will definitely be back.

As a committed curry fan, I cannot fault the amazing flavours and variety offered by this modest souther Indian eatery close to Turnpike Lane station. I'm not vegetarian, but the incredible cooking more than makes up for the lack of meat offered here, and the food really is of exceptional quality.

The prices are more than reasonable too, with nominal corkage fees if you want to bring wine or beer!

Every time I go I always end up ordering far too many dishes as I remember how delicious they were last time I went, so I invariably end up taking the leftovers home, happily potted up by the friendly staff.

There are too many great dishes to recommend, but at these prices you can go many times and try them all for yourself!

Don't hesitate - make a beeline for Turnpike Lane!!!

I used to be a regular at this restaurant and the only reason I'm not anymore is that I moved slightly further away.

I think that considering the very low price of most of the dishes, the food here is very tasty, especially compared to some other low priced Indian vegetarian places I can think of! it is also always served in a warm and friendly manner. They have always been more than happy to help with my requests for vegan options and a lot of the food is vegan already.

The proprietor and other staff have always been pleasant and friendly to me and my friends and although you do write your own orders out, I have never felt inconvenienced by this. The service has always been very good.

The decor is very nice with red walls, good lighting and paintings hanging up, not sure what the previous reviewer meant by 'dingy' - it's not at all. If you're in the area, go check it out for yourselves, I plan to go tonight.

Jai Shri Krishna is a cheap vegetarian hotel (that actually sums it up)

Pros:
1. single digit rates for most dishes
2. average quality vegetarian food

Cons:
1. Absolutely zero service (you have to write your own orders)
2. Some south-indian dishes may be disgusting and indigestible.
3. Dingy and dirty interiors
4. Very slow service and you may spend a good 2 hours (no exaggerations here) for a simple meal
5. You may find defrosted food served to you (i.e we could tell that the samosas and roti's were straight off the frozen food section from ASDA)
6. The owner will give you a piece of his mind if he's in a bad mood, if you ask for an additional plate or write down your order in a different format to what he expects
7. They sometimes miss orders and ask you to manage with something else instead (that was a first for me. lol)

We were disappointed the first time; were stupid enough to give him a chance and went back again. This time we ended up having a full on confrontation (all because one of the dishes had too much salt in it - we weren't even asking him to take it back) and i nearly lost it.

WE ARE NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN. We found a better, classy and respectable hotel on the same street "Jashn" - we're regulars there now.

Friendly staff. Modern decor and very clean. Very good, cheap, vegetarian Indian food. 1 minute from Turnpike Lane tube station [Piccadilly line.]
At lunchtime there is a half price offer on the thalis and massala dosa- so for £3.50 you get a choice of 2 chapatis or 3 poori, mango chutney, tarka dall, 2 curries, rice, salad and a sweet or the massala dosa for £2.95! In the evening when it is full price, we usually opt for the special thali, which is for two people and costs £18.95. This includes the above in larger portions plus your own choice of the two curries and also a selection of bhajis. Highly recommended.
You can also bring your own alcohol for a corkage fee of £1.20. Off licence next door. Cash only-ATM at tesco's just around the corner.
