After moving to Leyton nearly 2 years ago, we have been in search of a good Indian take away, I had almost given up after having korma's like baby food or ones way to hot to handle and full of grease..
When a friend recommended Shish Mahal which we tried last night.
Finally Joy at last! it was amazing, would thoroughly recommend.
Cant wait to order again.

I was treated with outstanding kindness by this restaurant when I fell ill during a meal there recently. I suddenly developed Labyrinthitis (infection of the inner ear, which affects balance) whilst waiting for my food and had to be taken to hospital. Whilst we waited an hour for the ambulance, during which time I was in enormous discomfort and quite worried, the staff did absolutely everything they could to make me as comfortable as possible, including making me a bed from the seats and fanning me constantly (I was sweating heavily). They never once expressed any concern for the trouble I

Went last night and the meal was fantastic. We eat a lot of curry and this was one of best. Would so recommend this place.

I had not been to the Shish Mahal for some time, but was prompted to do so by the new decor and frontage. The service was warm and welcoming as I remembered it and we were remembered. The food was excellent along with the service. All in all an excellent evening which we are keen to repeat.

This is simply the best small Indian restaurant in NE London. The staff are smart and discreet but always on hand and very polite. The proprietor is quietly charming and will chat with you if appropriate. The place is cosy with semi-booths if you want privacy. The food is superb. The usual well-known Indian dishes are the best examples you will get. The specials are indeed special: try the chicken kebab starters in a cheese sauce, followed by the Shish Mahal Special which is meat or chicken tikka in a thick sauce on a bed of mincemeat with prawns – succulent and complex with some heat. The side dishes are good as well: the spinach in the sag poneer is not soggy and drenched in cheese, and the onion bargees are crisp on the outside without being frazzled. There are some good Pakistani fast food restaurants in Walthamstow Hackney and Leyton; but if you want Indian go to the Shish Mahal. Lloyd Debbie and Emma Lewzey, January 2011.
