Oh come on! My experience was not at all like these remarks. Its a basement joint a block from Harrods. I saw it from the double decker and checked it out. Had a decent salad, bottle of Moretti and a glass of red. Entree was chicken carbonara with cream sauce. It all was fine, and not crazy expensive. Tiny independent italian joint. Who demands tap water?

It's like the manager made up the menu 30 years ago when you couldn't get any good ingredients and has never changed it since. Needs serious updating.
Bad food, terribly expensive, waiters barely there.

The only reason it's still in business is it's a tourist trap.

Seriously, don't bother.

Went to La Dolce Vita with a group of four friends on a saturday for lunch . The place was packed but within minutes we`ve been accomodated at a a very nice table which was a bit too close to the toilets but were happy to get a table in the first place. The waitress was very friendly , took our order quickly as we were very hungry and she promised she`s going to make sure we`re going to get the meals as soon as possible, As promised we got the dishes within 10 min , which were absolutely beautfiul . I had the lasagna which was a good size ,poor waitress was hardly holding it . We had some garlic bread between us ,and everyone had an individual main course,we skipped the starters :-) the bill came very quick , and it was about 20 quid each person , which is not bad for the location of the restaurant. We didn`t have had any alcoholic drinks though.Amazing food and beautiful service. Definitely going to go back

Easily the worst restaurant I have visited in London.
We didnt book, but it wasnt the kind of restaurant that you needed to..however when greeted at the door to be seated we were presented with a grunt and told to wait. Nothing else just the word wait.
We were seated with little enthusiasm and all staff we came into contact with were miserable and unfriendly.
After ordering drinks, of which one needed to be sent back due to the filthy cup, with no sorry or eye contact the waitress took the cup and bought over another again with no apology or eye contact. We then spotted a couple complaining about their food only for the chef to shout the customer down and be told to eat their food.
We ordered pizza at the overpriced cost of £11.25 thinking they couldnt go wrong..the pizza was pre made and very bland. I asked what beers they did as they didnt give us a drinks menu, or tell us what drinks they did. I was told, we do one beer, Moretti. The waitress then starred at me until I said yes please.
One of the pizzas was inedibale. We asked for the bill, which came without a smile or any eye contact.
We asked for the service charge to be taken off (for obvious reasons) the manager then stormed over to us demanding that we pay or he would call the police. After informing him that service charge is optional, especially considering the shoody service we'd had. He told us if we didnt pay the police would come and we were on CCTV.
We stood our ground and didnt pay the service charge. To then quickly leave without as much as an apology.
NEVER AGAIN.

My wife wentin and asked for tap water, the restaurant refused her request and she bought 2 glasses of pepsi at £6.38 for the pair for teh pelasure of reading the menu and leaving when she thought the menu was not very "veggie friendly".
Most Italian restaurants we have ever been to including some excellent ones on Kensington High St and Wildwood in Gerrards Cross are really good for vegetarian options and will go out of their way to provide a good alternative to meat dishes where possible...

Surprised by the other reviews on here. We called in to La Dolce Vita on Sunday morning for brunch. We were greeted courteously by a waitress, who asked if we were there for breakfast and showed us to a table. We ordered food and coffee, and I was given a glass of tap water on request, no hint of any problem with this. Food and coffee both excellent. Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere and the other breakfasters all appeared to be enjoying themselves from what I could tell. Would go there again.

Location, location, location these guys at least have that right. As a result they have absolutely no interest repeat business. The staff were rude to the point of threatening. The portions were miniscule and way over priced. They refused to provide tap water. A pint of beer cost almost £8. We were so disappointed with the meal and the service that we decided to only leave a 5% and ended up being confronted in the street by the waiter, for our trouble.

I have been a loyal customer of La Dolce Vita for a number of years, taken many guests there, and spent quite a bit of money over the years. However, this past Saturday, my partner and I took a couple of friends there to have a pre-xmas shopping lunch. We ordered starters, mains, and alcoholic drinks. One of our party then asked for a glass of tap water. The waitress sheepishly said they do not provide this, but only sell bottled water. I asked her to send the manager over, and I must say he was incredibly rude. Although we were hungry, we walked out, not wishing to reward poor customer service and rudeness. We went around the corner to Zia Teresa restauraunt, had a lovely meal (total bill: £110), friendly service...and a free jug of tap water.

I found the staff not very efficient. We had to wait 15 minutes for the starter. The 2 main dishes was cold when we received it on the table and this was unacceptable.

The worst, rudest and slowest service I have ever seen in my life. I do not recommend to anybody at all.

Perhaps the worst service in a restaurant that I've seen. On arrival, I and my girlfriend tried to get a table for 6 people (the rest of the family were some minutes behind) which seemed to take all the staff to work out, even though all that was needed was putting a couple of tables together. The idea of tap water rather than bottles was completely incomprehensible to them (all they would respond back was 'bottled water?') - although that was mainly a problem for the diners next to us. The food, once it arrived was very good. But after being there for the best part of two hours (long delay getting the order taken, and the food arriving) we gave up on them clearing the plates and did so ourselves, but still no offer of the desert menu or coffees. We were all having a good chat but the service was unforgivable. Finally, my girlfriends father went to complain and ended up with a stand up row in the middle of the restaurant after a snide remark from the owner as he returned to the table. I was appalled by the attitude of the staff and management, the food was redeeming so they get a star, but with such poor service I can give no more. Clearing this is a restaurant situated in a great location which does not need repeat business, and is quite happy with the large quantities of passing tourist trade. Avoid (or order as you enter and don't expect any service or timely food).

The food was absolutely delicious but we were displeased by the service, so much so that we won't return even though the food was good. We noticed that other diners were also getting a lack of service and the only table getting good service was the one that was overspending on outrageously priced bottles of wine along with a full 3 or 4 course spread. It seems if you aren't spending a boatload of money it is not worth their time to treat you right.
Have your say
