This is where the Bertorelli story began, but this first location has been updated with bright colours and chrome detailing to give a gleaming, welcoming, modern look here in the quiet heart of Fitzrovia. The ground floor restaurant serves a cafe-ish menu, while the slightly more formal restaurant upstairs is a bit of a haven for proper fine dining. Both manage to be quite cool and welcoming at the same time.
The service is spiffy, and the food just fab, and it's peopled with an eclectic mix of music industry folk, advertising folk and tourists with a nose for good nosh. And you may have a touch of deja vu here, part of the film Sliding Doors was shot here.
Try starter of classic buffalo mozzarella with tomato and fresh basil, followed by pasta course of smoked salmon ravioli with sour cream and chive sauce, main of marinated chicken breast with crispy fennel, mozzarella risotto cake, red pepper and basil sauce, and pud of parmesan with spiced plum chutney. The wine list is outstanding.
