All In London Review
A simple take on Middle Eastern food
We’re in the Streatham branch (the other two being in Balham and Islington), where they’ve employed the restaurants go-to industrial design look, with a blown up poster of a vintage car covering one wall as a centrepiece. There are a few tables plonked on the pavement too, although this stretch of Streatham High Road is not a particularly scenic one.
We start with sambousak, the Levantine equivalent of the samosa, golden deep fried pastry filled with feta cheese, which is hard to go wrong with. Moutabal is a dip made with grilled aubergines and parsley, sweetened with pomegranate seeds. A fillet of grilled swordfish comes with pomegranate sauce too (a stalwart of cuisine from this region), and a side of chunky chips is included in the £15 price tag. Kafta meshwi are two skewers of minced lamb seasoned with onions and parsley, which we order with labneh, delicious thick yoghurt with a liberal glug of olive oil and sprinkled with dried thyme.
There’s a small selection of drinks but you can also BYO to keep costs down. It’s a simple, affordable take on Middle Eastern food, with a meal for two and a drink coming to around £50.
