All In London Review

good service and great food at a reasonable price

It’s hard to find a restaurant that pleases everyone in the family but this place has been a favourite since my kids were little. Now they are grown up it’s still a place where they are keen to go.

It’s not easy to get to by public transport (there are a few buses including the 267 which connects to St Margaret’s and Twickenham) but there is plenty nearby for added enjoyment – the London Apprentice pub and the lovely riverside walks score highly.

We arrived on Saturday evening to find the place was fairly busy – there were family groups (complete with a slightly fractious baby), parties as well as couples.

The lighting is soft, the tables and chairs are shiny dark wood and the table linen is white. It’s impeccably clean and tidy but feels warm. The spoon/chop stick rests are tiny brass dragons. It’s traditional (there are some plants and a few small paintings) but not old fashioned. There’s also a bar area for those wanting drinks first or while waiting for their takeaway.

The staff aren’t overly friendly but you do feel welcome. They are fast and efficient too but don’t seem to mind if you take your time either.

We ordered a bottle of Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon which was excellent value at £20.50 and very drinkable. My daughter had a couple of Diet Cokes and we all had large glasses of water.

Some mixed prawn crackers arrived while we considered the extensive menu. My daughter chose some spare ribs (£5), my son had been looking forward to the crispy Mongolian lamb (£6.50) and I opted for the minced chicken (£5.80) – the latter two which came with ultra-crispy lettuce so you could make your own healthy wraps. They were all delicious.

Then onto the mains. My daughter had requested her quarter Peking duck (£8.50) and there was the usual theatre as the waiter did the shredding thing. It was served, as you would expect, with pancakes, sauce and thin strips of spring onion and cucumber. We helped her eat it.

There was a crispy beef dish (£6.90) where the beef was apparent in the batter (sometimes such dishes are all crispy and no beef). The pudthai (£5.90) my son declared the best he had tasted – but then he didn’t come to Thailand with us last year.

Egg fried rice and beansprouts added to the choices but my favourite was a sizzling king prawn in coconut dish (£8.30) which was excellent – creamy and smooth.

The total bill for the three of us came to £90.40 which included service.

On mentioning our visit, a couple of our local friends declared the place their favourite restaurant in the area. It’s reliable – good service and great food at a reasonable price and we shall continue to return.

My grown up sons and I had a very enjoyable meal here recently. We chose the place simply by geography and cuisine and discovered that we had made an excellent choice. The elegance of the surroundings makes this a place to bring someone you want to impress and the food makes it a great choice for everyone. Staff were attentive but unobtrusive and the prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be making a return visit and cannot recommend it highly enough.

I've been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years and have found it the best Chinese restaurant for miles around. Good food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Long may it stay.

We've been coming here now for something like 15 years and have never been disappointed. The food is great and so is the welcome from May and her staff.
The tables are large and beautifully dressed in linen. You don't feel like a battery hen here.
Would recommend to anyone who is in Isleworth and wants an enjoyable meal.
