I'll preface this by saying that we came here with a voucher for a meal for two which we were given as a gift. So I don't know what the voucher cost but I would have thought it would be £60 - £80. Gazette offered a three course meal with two glasses of wine per person. What they don't tell you is that they offer you no choice at all, and they serve two starters and two mains both to share - so if neither of you fancy one of the starters or one of the mains it's tough, you get it anyway.
I ordered an aperitif (as an extra) which arrived 30 seconds before the starters - not the idea. One waitress was surly, the other one was smiley but not very efficient - we had to prompt her to bring a serving spoon, the table next to us had to ask for their cutlery after their food had arrived. One of the starters was mussels, some of which were undercooked; the other was a very parsimonious plate of charcuterie.
I've always thought that the point of meal vouchers as a present is that they encourage you to go and try restaurants which you might not otherwise have visited, and which you might then decide to revisit. No way would I revisit Gazette, and I wouldn't recommend it to others. It sells itself as a warm and friendly country-style French bistro, but it's not friendly and it wouldn't last five minutes in France.
