We point you in the direction of some of London's best Japanese food

Miyama have locations in Mayfair and The City and serve a range of sushi and traditional Japanese cuisines. The five-course dinner menu is always good value. At a cost of £38.00 you can sample the exquisite sushi, scallops, grilled salted sea bass and tempura. The restaurants are open kitchen, which means you get to see the spectacle that goes with sushi preparation. Excellent sushi, reasonably priced makes Miyama one of London’s most popular Japanese restaurants.

I disagree with the others. Miyama is a quiet, discrete place mainly for locals with great sushi. It is not flashy but it's great if you actually want talk to your companions.

Miyama let us down this week after we held a birthday dinner there with family.
The service was slow and unattentive, and we had to ask several times for things once the restaurant got busy.
You will be fine if you get one of the senior waiters or waitresses, but if you are not a privileged regular, things are not great. We love their dobin-mushi and some of their dishes, but it has now become slightly less authentic and tailored to non-Japanese guests (we are Japanese) so we won't be going back!
