I phoned the Chutney Raj restaurant the other evening to order a take away. I asked the call recipient if they could explain an apparent anomaly in the menu. A sheek kebab starter, comprising two pieces, cost £3. A sheek kebab main course, comprising four pieces, cost £6.95! I thought it might be a misprint so I asked for clarification. I was put on to the manager who, when asked the same question, told me it was the owner's decision and that "I had no right to question the prices on the menu". When I asked him whether the 'I' referred to him or to me he told me very curtly that he "didn't wish to discuss it any further". So, I put the phone down. The real purpose of this critique is not merely to underline the manager's rudeness and, dare one say, stupidity but to draw to potential customers' attention that a lot of restaurants try this gambit (charging more than double for a main course when all you are getting is only twice as much as a starter). They think that the average customer won't notice this anomaly. When I have pointed out similar discrepancies in other subcontinental restaurants they have always ashamedly apologised, claiming it to be a misprint. The Chutney Raj didn't even have the nous to do that and compounded their mischievious attempt at price-fixing with an extremely surly, rude and, above all, stupid response from their manager. I notice one of your other reviewers describes the rudeness of the staff when he and his party ate at the restaurant. I can't talk about the quality of the food since I never got as far as ordering any but, rest assured, I will never set foot on the premises if I am to be confronted with price gerrymandering and unwarranted rudeness. I hope the owners take note of this critique and do something about their staff's behaviour and their price chicanery.

on the day that i passed my driving test i thought i dhould go celebrate with my friends and dine in a restruante that we have never been before. we went to chutney raj. a cosy restruant that glimmered with the spark of success and filler with an atmosphere that made my dining experience more enjoyable. the indian cusines that i tasted such as the prawn curry nad the chicken tika biranne and not forgetting the dal and vegetable curries- i got a little taste of india. it was like a culture carnival in my mouth exploding with different flavours and spices that made my eyes water. FOOD never tasted that good. Even after i was filled up i stil reached for anotherful because i couldn't get enough of the irrestible hot spicey food. after finishing my meal i personally thanked the chef who smiled and asked for us to come again. the service was absolutely fantastic. the waiters had perfect uniform and all spoke in pleasant kind and friendly way. they made sure we were comfortable and repeatedly came to our table asking if we needed anything else. we left the restruant feeling pleased, stuffed and happy at the worth-it price. price was suitable and it was definitely the best way i could have celebrated my pass. i recommend this restruant for its excellent service and brillant mouth-watering tasty food! x

On Sunday afternoon, me and a group of our friends visit Chutney Raj, because of the lunch promotion. We were ushered to the tables. As we checked on the menu, we wanted to find out more about on the varieties of their food and their options for the lunch promotion, the waiter was impatiently and rude in answering our questions. He even blamed us for not hearing him carefully. He took our order reluctantly. On his way into the kitchen, we can clearly heard him mumbling something quite nasty to his colleagues. Just happened another friend joined us half way through our meal. The waiter came and asked him for his order. My friend just wanted to sit with us, but the waiter said he had to leave the restaurant because he was not ordering any food (must be food items, not even drink).

At the end of the meal, we were given our bill. The charged a glass of coke for £3. When we reasoned with them, they say the drink price was not stated in the menu and we should ask them about the price first before ordering.

This was by far the worst customer service we have received.

This is a good restaurant, they dont have many dishes as such but the staff is friendly and the dishes are good. It is run by Bangladeshi mgt so dont expect too many Indian dishes. Worth visiting.
