All In London Review
There’s nothing Californian about Napa, but there is decent grub
The menu is more standard European hotel than Californian, with dishes like Shepherd’s pie, fishcakes, and the obligatory steaks and grill section. This turns out to be no bad thing however: there’s a competent starter of quail with sesame (£9) served with crunchy asparagus and sun-dried tomato, while the bruschetta (£7.50) with beetroot and a no-nonsense wedge of rich goat’s cheese is very good.
It gets better with a flavoursome rib-eye (£18.50), and a perfectly grilled tuna loin (£16.50), still pink in the middle and delicious. A side dish of smoky chorizo and spring onion with mashed potato (£4) is extremely moreish, and one I can see myself attempting many times over this winter. Dessert is just as good: a rhubarb tart (£6) with wispy pastry and a hearty pinch of cinnamon.
Chiswick is quite the foodie destination, home to beloved restaurants like La Trompette, Charlotte’s Bistro and High Road Brasserie, against which Napa can’t really compete. That being said, there’s some pretty decent cooking grub here if you happen to be round this part of town.
