Through my experience in London and Paris I never find a proper Bistro that can gather the 3 ingredients of a Bistro: "good food, well served and right price". As a "Bon vivant" I was looking for a place where we can simply have a good time in a good atmosphere.

That's why I create the Bistro de la Gare as informal restaurant where you can enjoy fresh and quality food at a decent price.

All In London Review

As cheerful and hospitable as a family-run auberge in the Bourgogne countryside

Review Image
Cheese lovers are mourning the closure of L’Art du Fromage, that kooky Chelsea restaurant styled like an alpine eatery where the smell of cheese would hit you while you were still on the pavement outside. Now we make do with the cheese platters at La Fromagerie and the fondues at St. Moritz.

Then there’s Bistro de la Gare, discreetly plying its trade from a stretch of Pentonville Road visited by few people who are not locals.

Red brick walls are covered in photos and the music is exclusively French or Latin - it’s as cheerful and hospitable as a family-run auberge in the Bourgogne countryside, indeed we don’t feel like we’re in London anymore. While waiting for friends to turn up the owner comes over with a stack of magazines to help pass the time, and you just don’t get this kind of service at a Café Rouge.

Food is suitably classic: there’s foie gras, snails, lamb chops with Dauphinoise, and sirloin with frites, all their meat comes from Smithfield Market and it’s all very well priced, the most expensive item being the steak at £14.95. However we are here for the raclette, that comforting winter warmer that makes a meal all the more convivial, by sharing a huge block of cheese and watching it melt before smearing over potatoes and cured meats.

The grill arrives and is plugged in under the table (as despite its rustic appeal, there is no open fire here), then a large platter of Parma ham, salami and green salad turns up along with a bowl of new potatoes. We expect to share it between three of us so are flabbergasted when we each get our own; for £16.95 we certainly get our money’s worth. We leave ready to burst and utterly charmed.

My first time to this restaurant, it doesn't look fabulous from the outside but such a great surprise inside. My friends and I pushed the door for a drink, we were 7, the staff welcoming make us stay for dinner, watch that Christmas menu 3 courses £18.50 at this price I wasn't expected much... Smoked salmon to start, beef medallion with foie gras sauce as a main and lava cake for dessert, that was one of my best christmas meal so far. Good service, good ambience and I very like the deco.
Big time recommend it..

I went here two weeks ago and on first impressions it looked really cute and the menu looked pretty nice. We ordered some nibbles to start off with which were average. Just as we bought our second drink from the barman, who was very friendly and helped us pick cocktails, the manager came in and started shouting at the staff. The atmosphere completely changed. Then, what I can only assume was an ex waitress came in to ask for the wages she was owed and another scene with the manager happened. We decided to leave after this as the atmosphere had become very tense. The has the potential to be a good bar and restaurant, however it seems clear [EDIT]there really needs to be some work on staff relations.

I find this review most concerning and would ask the reviewer to state when she claimed this occurred. I have managed this restaurant for the new owner for nearly 6 months and never have this can of situation, however our team is establish for the last 6 months and I am sure that if it was true, they will leave if it was the real case!!!

I invite all viewer to see serieuse website we people who can be trace with other writing like

This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and is my friends and mine, favorite place to grab drinks or dinner. it is never usually particularly busy which adds to the already fantastic service. the staff is comprised of mainly, if not all french people who do speak english, thankfully. they are all very friendly. if you dont want to become a regular, i dont recommend eating or popping in for a drink here. LOVE this place :)!
