I thought I would have to write something after seeing the previous terrible reviews. It's very convenient if you're going to the Apollo. We've been there twice, the food's fine (not brilliant) staff are polite. The place is quaint with a rustic charm and was quite full, so not everyone hates it

God bloody awful. I am sitting here in agony for the past 6 hours no thanks to the dining experience here. I will explain. Tapas? They don't understand the meaning of the word. You expect little plates of tasty morsels. We way over-ordered then, when the so-called quesadilla was brought it was actually a wrap out of a packet (prob old El Paso, with emphasis on the Old) folded in half with admittedly quite a tasty filling but tonnes and tonnes of cheese melted on top. The salad garnish was visibly stale, and it definitely tasted like it had been pre-made, sitting in kitchen all day and then microwaved - nearly burnt my mouth off with the first mouthful. I am highly dubious that this stomach ache is just due to a slight wheat intolerance to the cheap wrap they tried to pass off as a quesadilla and suspect the cheese was probably a bit old as the thought of it now makes me want to barf. The house red was surprisingly alright - but then I wondered if they added sugar to it to preserve it and make it taste sweeter. The glass was dusty. The nachos were ok - again, a bit soggy and the mince topping was dull and had no flavour. The guacamole was good but they gave about a thimble's worth. If we hadn't been in a hurry I would have made this clear to the restaurant as it is I will be contacting them as this is food poisoning. Had to repost as forgot to put the correct star rating - 1 and that is for the music and the shanty-like appearance of the place, both of which worked. The waitresses were ok but with food this bad they'd want to be.

Sorry but the food here was terrible- I would give it a 0 star if that was possible. We should have left straight away. The only good part were the Coronas we ordered.

We had the "shredded beef" fajitas. These were NOT shredded beef but beef cubes and the whole dish was cold. No flavour.. It looked like they had this on stand by in the kitchen- but they didnt heat it up! Along side of the cold flavourless fajitas, we were served a couple of store bought tortillas on the side and some old sauce that looked re-used- disgusting!

Again we should have complained and just left but we were rushing to a show at the Apollo and wanted some quick food and to get out. Everything was overpriced and they added service charge on the bill but didnt itemise it!

They need a new cook and new bartender that knows what Tex Mex should be like. I am part Mexican so do have some knowledge of what the food should be like. For a start, the fajitas should have been sizzling hot- at least warm- when served. Also, at least make an attempt to serve warm tortillas at the table.

I ate in Tex Mex last night and the experience left a nasty taste in my mouth. The food was actually ok (nothing spectactular but not offessive). The sangria (14.95 per jug) was far too weak and the jug was very small, so over priced for what it was.

The real drama came when we came to pay the bill. The waitress that had been serving us was not very attentive, and as the food was not wonderful we decided not to pay the 10% service charge. 2 of our party had their share of the bill in cash, and the 3rd member of the party was £3 short in cash so asked to put that amound on her card. When the waitress returned with the machine she said £11 on the card, and I explained that as we wern't paying the service charge, it was only £3 that was left to pay. The waitress looked at me blankly and said she didn't understand. I explained again and she shrugged and said that she didn't understand me. This is the same waitress that had been serving us all night. I asked to speak to the manager, to which I got another blank look. By this point my friend who owed the money was saying to the waitress put the £11 on the card, which she seemed to understand! I was furious. We were totally within our rights to not tip second rate service, and I feel cheated that the waitress appeared to pretend to not speak English because she knew that if a big enough scene was caused, then we would back down. To top it all off 2 of our party have had upset stomachs this morning. This place is not worth the trip.

The worst experience i had. No service at all. Tostadas was just one tortilla with low quality vegetables left overs on top with microwaved cheese on top. I ordered 2 margaritas one for me and one for my friend and it was just a glass with 2 ice cubes and orange juice. When i asked for more tequila the waitress told me that this is the way they do it. Wrong. Worst place ever.

Don't eat here. Waste of money. Not mexican food, but greasy and cold.

Key words: disgusting, cold, greasy, dripping with oil, very bland and waste of good hard earned money.
We were the only people in the restaurant, so they weren't rushed off their feet. We ordered mains. To be frank the food was awful. The worst I have eaten in a very very long time. It was greasy, cold and not worth a penny. Could have done better myself at home with the packets you buy in the shops. I wish I had complained and not paid. Waste of money.
I don't like to put a restaurant down, but if you are paying for a specific type of food, it should taste like it should and also be worth every penny.

Went here on Saturday as had been past many times and always wanted to try.

Tables are very cramped, to utilise the small interior space. This however could have been forgiven if the food/ service was good. It was not.

Three of us ordered a starter and main each, as well as a jug of Sangris.

The starters were very average, very oily buffalo wings.

The mains were below average, and very small. If the menu description is "tostadas" with "tortillas" that usually impies there will be more than one served (as was not the case); the piquante salmoln was plain baked salmon, unseasoned and with a tasteless topping which tasted like chopped tomatoes only. The patatas bravas were small cubed potatoes, again unseasoned and with a chopped tomato sauce only. My friends beef burrito was tasteless and bland also.

The Sangria tasted extremly amateur, like the punch bowl at the end of the night when all the leftovers have been emptied into the mix.

The service was non existant apart from taking the order, and bringing the plates (which did not all arrive at the same time). I think there was a 10% service charge on the bill which we paid against our better judgement (it was an unidentified charge initialed as TAD or something), because we sure as anything would not have left a tip.

It's hazard of the location next to the Hammersmith flyover I know, but through the window where we were sitting, my boyfriend had a lovely view of one of the homeless people/ drunks outside vomiting next to the subway and then picking through it. Perhaps some curtains in the window would fix this?

I wanted to like this place, it's in a good location and I love Mexican food, but I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend it.

Juan's El Paso Tex Mex doesn't look much from the outside - but is a great place for Mexican.

It's cramped inside - with tables being really close together - so if you're claustrophobic, or not very good at making friends, this is not the place for you.

The food is always top notch and great value for money; and the staff are super friendly.

Have your say
