Don’t be fooled by the old fashioned pub name

Despite the austere name, rather than a good old fashioned boozer The George is a polished, modern and - dare I say it – generic-looking bar minutes away from Holborn station.

Inside, bright lighting and faux wood make up the décor while large widescreen TVs show sports. From the outside, the pub appears to be located on the ground floor of a somewhat unalluring grey office block.

This is one of those places where it’s nigh on impossible to move around with ease in the evenings, particularly on a Friday – when I was unfortunate enough to attend - as the local workers turn up in droves for a pint or glass of vino. Even outside the punters are packed so tightly together it makes traipsing out to a free spot with a wine glass in hand an heroic feat.

There is food available, with the dishes veering towards traditional English pub fare, however the act of finding a table and ordering seemed futile on such a busy night.

The George may not seem like anything special but they’re certainly doing a roaring trade.
