All In London Review
Freshly prepared Mexican street food in E1
There are essentially four main choices on offer: beef barbacoa, pork tatemado, chicken pibil, and the vegetarian Oaxacan mole, a bizarre concoction of sweet potato, corn, plantain, banana, chocolate and nuts. Each can be served as a quesadilla, burrito, or even as a salad
We choose the beef barbacoa burrito (£5.50). The beef has been marinated in a chipotle adobo – a sauce made with Jalapeno peppers - and braised for three hours in red wine and tomatoes till the meat is tender. We opt for black beans, pineapple salsa, guacamole, cheese and chilli sauce to go with it. The beef is chunky, and the pineapple provides a cooling flavour to go with the spicy chili.
The pork tatemado has been slow-braised in ginger, cinnamon, chillies, and tomato. We choose it as a quesadilla (£5) with pinto beans and an intriguing-sounding cactus leaf salsa, which has tender pieces of pickled cactus leaf. Melted cheese inside and over the top of the tortilla wrap completes this interesting combo.
Both the burrito and quesadilla we’ve put together have strong flavours, from spicy chilli to sweet pineapple, vinegary cactus salsa to creamy guacamole; they all complement each other well.
There is sparse seating, as this is more of a grab-and-go type place catering to city workers’ lunchtimes; in fact it is only open till 2.30pm Monday to Friday. A selection of coffees, crisps, and flapjacks are the other additions to the otherwise Mexican fare.
The Flying Burrito’s modest outlet has some very tasty Mexican food indeed; well worth a visit if a speedy lunch near Liverpool Street is required.

The best places in London to pick up food on the go
Food on the go doesn't have to have been sweating away in cellophane for 8 hours.
Meats are marinated overnight and slow-cooked at this great little Mexican eatery, served with zesty salsas made from cactus leaves, pineapple and dark chocolate. Choose from burritos, tacos or healthy salads.
