All In London Review

Belgian bakery cum restaurant serves French-inspired fare in Westfield

In keeping with the mammoth proportions of shopping centre Westfield, Belgian bakery cum café cum restaurant Le Pain Quotidian has heaps of space, with immensely high ceilings, tables round the front near the counter, an old-fashioned bar not unlike one you would find in a French bistro, and more tables in the restaurant-like area at the back.

Mouthwatering cakes and breads are on display at the counter where hot drinks and snacks can be ordered to go. While most of the London branches stick to the café/bakery formula, at Westfield they open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving a range of cakes, pastries and baguettes. Additionally, a French-inspired evening menu offers quiches, soups, salads and larger dishes such as confit de canard and sirloin steak.

They pride themselves on using fair trade coffee and organic milk for their hot beverages; quite bizarrely, these are served in large bowl-like cups without handles. Someone suggests they are emulating Japanese vessels, however these are thrice the size of their Far Eastern counterparts.

Despite its simple cafeteria appearance, prices are not as cheap as one would expect, with main courses averaging £10 - £15 and the price of a cappuccino being £2.20.
