The recently-opened Nom Noms Café is bringing authentic street and home-style Asian food to Elephant & Castle.
Conceived by brother and sister team, John and Anna Vuong, the café offers the best and most popular dishes from Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, Korean and Chinese cuisine in an informal, creative and relaxed atmosphere.
John and Anna’s parents were pioneers of Asian food in Elephant & Castle, previously running the Bandong Chinese Restaurant, which opened in 1997 on the very same site as Nom Noms Café and served authentic family-style Pekingese cuisine. The site has since changed hands several times since, but is now back in the family under John and Anna’s management.
With a solid background in cooking in the fast-paced kitchens of high-profile restaurants such as Wagamama and Busaba Eathai, Head Chef John Vuong takes this experience and applies it to creating new fusion recipes for Nom Noms Café. John's aim is to try and introduce a new kind of Asian food to the Elephant & Castle area and show that there is more to Asian food than the typical Chinese, which many have gotten used to. All his recipes use only the freshest ingredients and he uses healthy alternatives to oil whenever possible.
John’s signature dishes at Nom Noms Café include Vietnamese soup noodle dishes, such as Bun Bo Hue, Phad Thai, Chicken Katsu Curry and Thai Calamari. For the sweet of tooth, Nom Noms Café also serves up funky flavoured bubble teas and tapioca and coconut jelly sweets.
