Most authentic thai restaurant in london, excellent food, nice airy restaurant and very happy staff. Lovely ice cubes and lots of chilli. We go every week and its much better than the thai across the road.

I has studied real Thai cooking and spent a lot of time in Thailand. It is nearly impossible to find a restaurant in London that makes Thai food exactly the same as in Thailand, there was only one i knew of which was Siam Sq, in earls ct when my friend used to be the chief there, now that's changed too. The only other place i would eat in was Market Thai, normally with Thai friends, the food was very good. Last week i went there from the other side of London to treat my girlfriend to a decent meal. The staff were very friendly as before but sorry to say the food was terrible, they now have a different chief. The tom yum was very bland, had no lemongrass & kaffir lime leaf which is a very Important for the true flavor, i think the chicken was reheated, it was like rubber. I also ordered som tam with sticky rice, worse som tam i have ever tasted, the waitress admitted the chief does not use a pestle and mortar to make the som tam as he doesn't have time. This traditional dish tastes the way it should from making it with a pestle and mortar to blend in all the important flavors and is also quicker to make using one. I also asked for it Thai style(spicy) and it came with no spice at all. The sticky rice came about 20 minutes after the som tam, the main courses were also very poor, the waitress even agreed that the food did not taste like real thai food! I was glad to hear my girlfriend telling the waitress that my tom yum and som tam tastes better. I would defintely not eat here anymore. It has gone from being a top thai restaurant to one of the worst i have eaten in.

Some what better than Thai Rice which is down the road. Decor fab!!! Food ok-ish! Pad Thai nice but other things like squid was rubbery and not nice! The prices are what you would expect for Notting Hill, although for what they charge the food should be great!

I have eaten in the Market Thai countless times. I am a regular there and use pretty much any excuse to go. The food is excellent, incredibly fresh which becomes obvious befor your food arrives as they are more than willing to add or take away specific ingredients. I find the staff incredibly friendly on most occaisions and the ambience calm yet lively. It is very affordable too, i often have a main course and a couple of drinks for not much over ten pounds. I had one incident when a waiter collected the bill money and a note fell off by the till, the staff were dubious until it was found which did make me feel quite uncomfortable but they were appologetic when they spotted their own mistake

Was just above average- food was good!- tasted great and was quick to order- ambience was great- very thai feeling. servers didn't have a smile which reflects the 8 i've given them. and they decided to take the crackers with our empty plates :( - i have a huge appetite and that was a "no-no" and a slap on the wrist!!! but food was still good!!!

I ate here on Valentines evening with a group of freinds.
The service was appaling, and we were delt with in a very offhand manner.
When I found a chunk of glass in my mouth, from one of their not so delicious dishes, I found myself being accused of placing it there myself in order to avoid having to pay for the meal, this was immediatly prior to our group being asked to leave the restraunt so as to avoid any embarrasment.
Furthermore the supposedly 'friendly staff', refused to give their names once they knew that I intend to take this matter further.
Have your say
