Was disappointed to read bad reviews. Went to restaurant in Sept 2013 with family and thoroughly enjoyed it - nice surroundings, good food and friendly service. We will go again !

I have the same opinions as Tom's and Anne's..i won't recommend YAS for Christmas!!

The whole service experience was our worst ever!

Firstly, the weather now is freezing and to our surprise the radiators went off half-way through our dinner ..
Second, the waiters seem too busy chatting loudly in their own language as if nobody is offended with the noise and mayhem.
Frequent interruptions by the service staff was completely inexcusable... we were meant to relax and enjoy our meal..yet the entire episode turned out to be a sour experience.

The Prices are too high for the food quality and service offered. Mannerisms are completely absent in service staff..

Also the waiting time for each order is never ending!!!

I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends at all.

I read about this place in the paper and decided to give it a try, the review was good and I'd be stepping out of my comfort zone a bit, in terms of what is for me, exotic cuisine! I went there with the family on a Saturday night as we normally try and eat together each weekend. We all enjoyed it immensely, the food was enjoyed and commented by all, even my young son who seemed to have a great time. It was busy all though the staff coped very well and were great.

My favourite restaurant in Hammersmith. Great food and amazing value considering the sizes of the meals. Absolutely delicious food, judging from everything I've tried on the menu so far. Staff are very friendly and ambiance is warm. Place is usually busy and people are dealt with well. I don't understand some of the reviews on here so I thought I would try and put things right - it's like they've been to a different restaurant!!

I agree with Anne.
I`ve been there a few months ago.
From outside the place looks inviting.
Once you`re inside you find shouting and ignorant staff
who don`t bother to serve you.
The food clearly was the (second) worst I ever had in London.
It was dry and boring and not exactly cheap.
This place is definitely NOT recommended!

Compare to most Iranian food in London, Yas was ok and portion was huge. However some of the dishes were definitely not recommended as it was clearly taken from supermarket. Service was ok, but at time it gets quite intimidating when the staffs keep approaching our table which adds pressure and can be very interrupting at times. It gets even worst when I request something form one of the staff then another interrupt our conversation.
At times staff was shouting in Iranian and ordered their fellow worker to do things which make the whole environment bizarre. (He was clearly doing nothing besides walking up and down interrupting conversation). Perhaps he was trying too hard or maybe it’s the Iranian cultural thing. Returning to the basic if they wanted to provide good service, they should start form the manners.
Get to the point if you would like a lovely enjoyable meal, then Yas definitely does not add to your experience.

The food at this restaurant was recommended by a friend so we decided to give it a try one weekend. We were shown to a table in a nearly empty restaurant then waited 10 minutes before we had to ask for the menus because they didn't give us any.

Then we tried to order a bottle of red wine we were informed that there was no house wine available. We tried to order 3 other bottles of red wine on the list and none were available. Apparently this was because red was the 'most popular' so they had sold out. We tried to order several bottles of white and none of these were available either! The unhelpful waiter then brought the only bottles they had available to the table, they were all their most expensive options at at least £10 more than the house, what a surprise!

It was the beginning of a Saturday night and they could not offer a compromise or an apology, so we got up and left the restaurant within 20 minutes of sitting down. The food might be tasty but the staff unhelpful, slow and not bothered. There are plenty of other Persian restaurants in the area, I strongly recommend that you go to one where the staff care!

We have used Yas restuarant for probably more than 20 years, and we wanted to take take our now extended family there, as it was my daughthers 20th birthday and it has always been her favourite. We booked for a table of 8 at 10pm when we arrived the table was not ready and there is nowhere to sit apart from the 4 seats outside we stood for 30 mins overlooking people eating off putting for both us and them I would think. Those of us who braved the outside table ordered tea to keep warm which came after 20 min no spoons 3 cups 4 saucers by the time they got it together table was ready. Table had no cutlery at all no plates, these came after 3 requests and when all the starters were on the table still had no drinks. Half the drinks came and after two further requests the other drinks came. Still no jug of water requested as we sat down. Food was as usual, but this is only part of the experiance the staff were off hand bar the two male waiters who were nice, but seemed so disorganised and clueless.we ordered avariety of mains and after 35mins nothing the starters hadn't been cleared and the time was now 11.50pm. Our 13 year old daughter was by now putting her head on the table with tiredness and after another 10 mins we cancelled our order. The staff gave no apology and appeared not to care at all. We are an Anglo/Iranian family and like a relaxed service unfortunately there was no service, and on this night there didn't seem to be a manageror anyone in charge so dissapointed.

Unfortunately, it seems the person below wrote the following four negative reviews. Just a bad experience I guess. This unfairly reflects the true dining experience one can have at Yas. It is not the Ritz and does not try to be. It is a first class Middle Eastern restaurant.

Remember, English is not their first language and you are not there for that rather you are there for a taste of authentic Iranian cuisine. You would be hard pressed to find anything comparable in London and in fact the best test is to try somewhere else first and then see for yourself.

Here, you will experience delicious fresh hot bread from the open oven, tasty, tender grilled meats cooked in front of you over an open pit, some of the tastiest vegetarian appetisers out there and washed down with a choice of soft drinks to fine wine.

Once done you can enjoy traditional Persian tea, fragrant homemade ice creams and sorbets and if you are inclined, you can sit outside and watch the world go by smoking a traditional flavoured 'hookah' until 4am!

And no, I am not the owner or even related. Just someone that enjoys good quality food.

Terrible atmosphere and to say the food was mediocre would be an exaggeration. The waiters act as if they are doing the client a massive favour. I took a group of friends there as it happened to be close to where we were - a BIG mistake. Avoid this place like the Plague.

The food was reasonably good in this Persian restaurant, but the service was appalling. It completely ruined our meal. The waiting staff could not pronounce the names of the dishes, and referred to them by number (this is not acceptable in a restaurant). They made numerous mistakes with our order and the mishandling of the serving of our starters resulted in some of our party being served their main courses as others were being served their starters. And as some of our party were finished before others as a consequence, the table was stripped making my friends who were still eating feel like they needed to cling onto their plates out of fear they would also be whisked away from under their noses. This is not a comfortable way to enjoy a meal. At the end, we were overcharged. There seemed to be a veritable army of staff standing along a wall laughing and gossiping, but not at all paying attention to the diners. The staff are badly trained and badly managed. This restaurant is not recommended.

I thought optional service charge was optional, by law or something? Not according to the staff a YAS!!! There are lots of bad comments online about this 'restaurant' that I wish I’d seen before eating there. The first thing you see when you open the menu is two press articles of praise. I noticed that one was from 2001 and the other dated back to the late 90's.
The food was terrible, if I’d taken a plate, knife and fork to my local Kebab Ye and tipped the contents of the polystyrene container on to my plate it would have been hard to tell the difference. Apart from Kebab Ye cost about £5 with no service charge.
I ordered Lamb Kebab, What I got was processed meat that had been molded in to a bizarre shape, under cooked, under seasoned plain rice and a tomato which I assume had been dropped on to my plate.
Food - bad,
Service - non existent,
Location - lucky for the owner,

I wouldn’t recommend it, not even as a joke.

We were shocked at this non optional service charge especially as the service was very poor and the waitress was rubbish, informing us that they served only one brand of beer only to see other table being served different beers, We asked if the hummous came with bread she said yes, we later found out it didn't and the bread is charged as extra, apparently you just have to use your fingers to dip into the hummous???

The rest of the food was very poor, the worse I've had in a long time. On most dishes you get a plate full of dry unseasoned rice a slither of processed meat they called Kebab and one! yes One! grilled/burnt tomato all for a rip of price. I couldn't have done worse in a dodgy Kebab House on the way home from a night out.

Its seems they rely heavily on trade from the shows at Olympia knowing they don’t have to maintain standards for repeat custom. Extremely disappointed, next time I’ll play it safe and go to Pizza Express across the road.

Koobideh(minced meet kebab on scewers) was not as solid as should be and did not taste good at all. The chicken(joojeh´kebab)was delicious, and so was the rice.

The worst of all, our total bill was wacked up by a 10% service charge which is NOT optional, you heard me... not optional...you have to pay it regardless you like the service or not????? and the service was awful.

Very disappointed with the service at YAS, I ordered food for £35 to take away, on arrival discovered 1 item was missing, all what I hear from them was "sorry". 27 February 2009.

Absolutely top restaurant. Even walking in slightly worse for wear at midnight we were welcomed warmly and even when my drinking companion spilled his beer everywhere they didn't blink.
Food was excellent if a little expensive but would definitely stagger back here again.

It has obviously gone downhill since such positive reviews in Time out. Expensive compared to the food value. Service charge was included, no wonder because it was really poor. Little variety on the menu and very boring food. I definitely won´t return. On the positive side, the humus though was outstanding.

Nice place, great waiters, the food is lovely. It's great value but not as good value as the restaurant 3 doors down so I tend to go there instead but the cheaper place doesn't have the same atmosphere as Yas. Still good value in Yas nontheless.I spend approx £17 per person for 2 courses and soft drinks. Would definitely recommend.

Yas is probably the best athentic Iranian restaurant in London. The resturant is fairly small, has a warm atmosphere with an open traditional oven at the front where the bread is made infront of you. The staff are very friendly and the owner showed great hospitaly, I wasn't sure about a yogurt drink and he offered me a small taster first to see if i liked it. The food is traditional and tasty and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone who likes Iranian food in a friendly and warm atmosphere.

Yas, in my opinion, is the best Iranian restaurant in London. It has a warm atmosphere and is nestled right next to another Iranian restaurant which I believe to have not as good food (and not as many customers!). One of the reasons that its my favourite is because of the warm, fresh bread which is made in the open (traditional) oven at the front. This stantard is kept going as the starters come along and the kebabs (which are truly excellent). They have the full array of kebabs, from jujeh to koobideh, and are served either with rice or their lovely bread. Very generous portions are given for a small price of around £6-8 pounds a dish. Other traditional dishes available, friendly staff.Yumm
