Tang is serving up organic, wholesome soul-food with a concise menu of Asian-inspired noodle soups created by head chef Chen Ng, who draws on her Singaporean heritage.

The striking interior is decorated with Chinese newsprint with an eclectic collection of framed foodie images. Shelves of beautiful noodle bowls add colour but the focal point is the buzzing open kitchen. All In London Review

A new restaurant serving tasty, thrifty noodle dishes

Review Image
This new noodle restaurant is in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it location sandwiched between Great Russell Street's YMCA and the 24 hour restaurant VQ. Shellfish fans might remember this as the site of the short-lived Lobster Kitchen. It's a small eatery where you order food at the counter to take away or eat in, either perched on a stool, or at the window. There's not much of a view at the moment, however we all know the speed at which London's landscape changes.

The chef has Singaporean heritage, so Tang's noodles are not to be mistaken with ramen, which are added to creamy bone broth. Here the stock is lighter but still full of flavour, thanks to the addition of Chinese herbs. After all, Singapore's unique location in south east Asia means the cuisine has quite a medley of influences.

There is a choice of wheat, rice or gluten-free glass noodles. The prawn tang has juicy tiger prawns that have split open through cooking, swimming in a slightly oily, spicy prawn and pork broth with bean sprouts and a creamy egg.

I'm dining with a vegan, but although they've just sold their last vegan soup the chef helpfully rustles up a few dishes so she doesn't go hungry. Her noodles have a sweet and savoury flavour as they're mixed in with mushrooms, goji berries and bok choy, topped with a sesame dressing.

There are starters too. Nuggets of chicken are fried in a salted, soya milk coating - the whole menu is dairy-free. Alongside it there's a hot sauce dip, the alternative being lemon tofu. Cubes of homemade black bean tofu are nice and crispy, with a pot of delicious white miso sauce. The other especially prepared vegan dish is a salad of beansprouts, dotted with peanuts with the skins on, caramelised onion and a very spicy sauce.

There's a short drinks list that includes a white Pino Nero wine and Beavertown Neck Oil by the can, a light IPA that's ideal for the spicier dishes.

Noodle dishes are priced between £10 and £12, making Tang's meals both tasty and thrifty.
