It goes without saying, that Black Axe Mangal operates a no reservations policy, and serves, in its own words, "kebabs, beers and other tasty junk". Opened in 2015 by Lee Tiernan, formerly of St John restaurant, Black Axe Mangal originates in Bakken, a bar and restaurant in Copenhagen's meatpacking district. There Lee manned the outdoor grill in 2014 cooking kebabs with unusual cuts including ox heart, braised goat and smoked lamb. To accompany this he made flat bread to order, served with house-made pickles and condiments.
Since then the Black Axe Mangal concept has been taken to festivals in New York and Los Angeles, and has now put down roots in the form of the first permanent restaurant in London.
