"Homemade, authentic flavours created with love"Review Rating: Reviewed by Laurel
London certainly has no shortage of pasta restaurants, but the recent addition of Pasta Nostra has brought with it something special. Sure the likes of Padella and Lina Stores may be old favourites, but this new kid on the block might just be the one to give them a run for their money.
Chefs Wilfred and Luca, ex Bistro Union and Restaurant ‘Ours’, decided to open their fresh pasta hang out after a lunch at Metropolitano Mercato, deciding they had the skills and the ability to, with the intention of being slightly anti-hospitality; better working conditions for staff, as fair a pricing scheme as possible throughout the menu and using the best and most providential materials available.
The result is a pleasingly unpretentious space just off the Old Street roundabout, with a short and sweet menu offering small plates, mouthwatering homemade pasta in just the right sized portions and charming espresso bar to lure in passing commuters on the breakfast coffee run.
The house focaccia, made fresh each morning, is a must-have. We followed it up with the house Tortello Carbonara, a twist on the classic featuring flavour-packed crispy cured pork cheek and an indulgently creamy sauce. The Orecchiette al Pesto features a vibrant homemade pesto with green beans, surely the healthiest homemade pasta one could choose? Their two classic desserts are a must-try; a homemade tiramisu was a revelation, while the perfect Sicilian cannoli with fresh sheep’s ricotta could have come straight out of Palermo.
Pasta Nostra is, quite simply, great food; homemade, authentic flavours created with love, in a deliciously casual setting. The perfect pitstop for a midweek supper, get it in your diary.
