A big disappointment: as an Italian in London, I always thought of La Pappardella as one of the very few places where I could have an authentic and delicious pizza. I used to go quite regularly when living in the area. I went back last week after a few months since my last visit and ate a truly awful pizza. The base was very clearly a frozen base, not even fresh, as you could see the mould split-line running all across the crust and the shape was a perfectly round disc, like no real hand-made pizza can ever be. And it tasted like cardboard.
We left feeling really sad that one of the few outposts of real Italian cuisine in London had gone down this way. I believe they must have changed management, as I didn't see the usual people, but they must have clearly got rid of the very good "pizzaiolo" they had.
The service was good and friendly as always, the atmosphere is always cosy and welcoming, the prices are always reasonable. But our pizzas were just dreadful. We didn't have anything else, so I can't say if the other food is OK or not, but if you're looking for a good pizza, go elsewhere.

This has become our local place for dinner, probably an average of twice a week for at least 2-3 years. We bring friends here and they always come back on their own.
The staff have always been wonderful. Most of the time they are Italians for a brief visit to London, so their English is a little rough. Always friendly, though. If you speak Italian you might think you are in Tuscany. Management is consistent and they make sure your experience is good. Any problems, its fixed, pronto.
The food is really quite good. All ingredients are fresh, home made, and the quality has always been great. I'm a big pasta fan and think their Spaghetti Bolognase is the best in the world. Linguini Pesto is a winner as well in that they make their own pesto sauce and it smells so fresh you might wonder if they had a garden in the kitchen.
Lamb, veal or chicken has always been superb. And if you are a pizza lover then this is the place for authentic Italian style pizza. Wine list is average, but it really is a value priced place so the wine reflects this. Very kid friendly, and there is a garden in the lower level.
Come here once and you'll feel like part of the family. I wish there were more places like this.

Great food and service......best garlic bread i have ever had and authentic pizza, full of flavour, melt in the mouth, just the right amount of toppings, thin, properly cooked base and generous portions. Have been back there many times and the service is friendly and flexible with items on the menu. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
