I felt I had to write just so people weren't put off by the last person's ultra negative comments! I've been to Bumbles a few times, both for their £10 2 course dinner (which is very good value) and the a la carte menu (slightly bigger portions and more choice). We've always had truly wonderful food, including dealing well with food allergies. The service is good, though maybe a little sporadic when they are very busy. It's a fairly small place with real personlity and charm instead of part of a bland chain. Highly recommend it, and hope to go again soon.

I know it says no ranting so I will try not to.
We ate at this restaurant for a friends birthday and it was easily the worst meal I have ever eaten. To say that this place serves British food is a joke. The chips were greasy crisps served in a tiny pot (not even a packet's worth!). The Beef Stroganoff (British?) was cold and had no meat in it, the pork ribs were dry and more bone than meat and the rosti served with the lamb burger was tiny. it tasted like a frozen hash brown. We waited 2 hours for the main course and were treated like criminals when we said we wouldn't pay for the food.
Don't bother giving this place your money and if you are a tourist don't bother coming here for British food, it will ruin your holiday.

We ate at Bumbles to celebrate my Partners's Birthday last Wednesday. We were delighted, the food was first class, service was excellent and good value for money. Friendly staff ensured that we will be returning to Bumbles again and again.

REVIEW PART 4

Everyone enjoyed the meal. The portion sizes were large and we didn't have room for dessert. We only ordered one desert (a lovely rich chocolate gateau) because we had a birthday girl. The waiting staff kindly supplied a candle and brought it out singing "Happy Birthday". A nice touch.

We all had coffee.

Service was friendly and attentive without being annoying.

So for five starters, five mains with potatoes and vegetables, one desert, five coffees, two bottles of house wine and two large bottles of water - the bill was 158GBP or less than 33GBP each (including service).

I was very impressed and will definately go back to try the 10 pound menu.

BUMBLES REVIEW PART 3

We had to order potatoes and vegetables seperately.

The Sausages and Mash was interesting - it consisted of three sausages of different types (Cumberland, Wild Boar and another I can't remember).

We also ordered a bottle of house red - which was vintage wine, and house rose, with two large bottle of mineral water.

My Steak and Kidney Pie was excellent. It came in the dish it had been baked in and the crust was real short pastry crust - not one of the puff pastry lids you get sometimes. It was deep and full of steak - right up to the crust - with plenty of kidney.

The potatoes and selection of vegetables were nicely prepared but not special.

BUMBLES REVIEW - PART 2

We selected from the a la carte menu. The restaurant describes itself as providing British fare. This is very true.

We were provided with a basket of toast with butter while we looked at the menu. The starters included Stilton Mushroon Cups, Spinach with cream and bacon, Squid in a cream sauce, Chicken livers.

I had the Stilton Mushroom Cups which were very tasty and hot. All of the party were happy with their starters.

The main courses include Pie of the Day - the choice today was Shepherds Pie or Steak and Kidney Pie.

I had the Steak and Kidney Pie. The rest of the party had roast duck, Sausages and Mash and Calves Liver.

BUMBLES REVIEW - PART 1 (700 characters is not enough!)

I've just come from Bumbles where I and four others had an early evening meal. The restaurant is small (but I think there is a room downstairs) and was nearly empty.

We were greeted at the door by a smart and very friendly waiter.

The restaurant is very nice to look at with white linen table cloths, and elegant decor. As an avid non-smoker, I was pleased that no-one smoked while we we there, and there were no ashtrays on the tables. However, I don't know whether the restaurant has a no smoking policy. I suspect not.
