Rowleys is essentially a pre-theatre restaurant, and serves a variety of modern English cuisine, but is most famous for its entrecote steak. It's old fashioned and attracts the more mature patron yet retains a relaxed atmosphere. Catering for private parties of up to 65 guests is available upon request.

We bought an amazon voucher for a Chateaubriand Steak Dinner for two people few months ago and to be honest I was quite looking forward to eating a good steak. Unfortunately were we very disappointed! The service was very very poor. We waited more than 20 min to be at last noticed by a waiter so we could order some drinks and starters. The food took ages to come. When the steak finely arrived the portion was tiny. The fries are supposed to be unlimited but that is assuming they are ready on time.

Seeing the two negative posted reviews I just had to put the other side of the story. My family and I have been going to Rowleys several times a year for over a decade. The service is always efficient and very friendly. We always have the speciality of the house, being the steak with the fabulous source which is superb.
I rarely order steak as I am often dissapointed but never at Rowleys.
Yes, it has got expensive but they do have one of the most generous loyalty systems I have ever come across. A completely free meal, wine and all is possible after only three or four visits.Le GAVROCHE it is not but if you want a treat of a delicious steak with the best fries in London washed down with a Chilean merlot then Rowleys is the place.

This is not the place to go if you want service with a smile and a warm welcome. The maitre de is particularly unwelcoming. The waitresses are much more guest friendly. You will not get your coat taken, or indeed, good manners in helping you into your seat. You will be charged a cover charge irrespective of how many of you i.e.£1.95/head and a 12.5% service charge. Whilst the food is good it is extremely expensive i.e. £12.50 for a glorified prawn cocktail, £18 for a small breast of chicken. Probably a place for the seriousness of business lunches although the tables are extremely close together.

After hearing good things about Rowleys we were very dissapointed with our night. The service was poor, their lack of knowledge of wine was a let down and the food was ordinary and overpriced. Additionally a cover charge per person is dated and unnecessary as is the "optional" 12.5% gratuity. Service charges should be based on merit and not,as many restaurants now do, simply applied to the bill. We will not be going back to Rowleys again nor recommending it to any of our friends.
