We are a group of normally easily pleased 55-62 year olds who often travel and holiday together. We were in London for 'rugby and shopping'. We spotted the restaurant on the Saturday morning and the ladies decided that we should book a table for our eight, plus two friends who live locally, for the evening. We informed the restaurant staff that the majority of us would be choosing from the 'set' menu recommended on the display board outside. We arrived a few minutes before our friends, and were seated and served drinks (A couple of bottles of wine and some rather expensive beers). It was not until after our friends arrived and were also served drinks that the problems started. We were presented with the menus and informed that four of the main course choices on the 'set' menu , "were off". Had we known this before ordering the drinks, we would have gone elsewhere. However, being reasonable people, we persevered, with more than half of us having to resort to the Ala Carte menu (No discretional discounts offered- and we were informed that the starters we wanted from the set menu would be charged at ALa carte price).
We all ordered the same fishcake starter, but we got several different versions of it. Some cold, some warm, some overdone, some underdone, some soft, some leathery. All were on a bed of noodles of varying temperature, and all had a dollop of chilli dipping sauce, probably straight from the bottle.
Main course was a disaster. some sent back,(cold) More food was left than eaten, ran out of mash, (they suggested chips with calf's liver),Quality of food woeful. Wondered why we weren't happy and offered us a loyalty card????. Having to pay the compulsory 12.5% service charge for such dire service was like being stabbed in the eye. A totally unsatisfactory experience which negatively affected the group atmosphere for remainder of the evening.

I was in a party of four and ate at Wolfe’s on Thursday December 20th 2007. I have been confined to bed since returning home from the restaurant. I believe that I acquired food poisoning from the white crab meat in the bed of the prawn cocktail. I would like to hear from anyone who also ate at the restaurant that evening (who had the prawn cocktail) or any other crab dish.
Did you suffer the following symptoms?
violent projectile vomit, diorrhoea, sickness, and nausea?

Please leave a comment here if you also suffered food poisoning from this restaurant

Whilst my guest's food was fine my steak was especially poor. Despite there being hardly anyone in the restaurant the staff were not very attentive, I had to mention that I was unhappy with my steak twice before the head waitress came over and in a manner that was both discourteous and abrupt informed me that it was because I had ordered it medium rare? It is no surprise they just put 12.5% servive charge on the bill because no one would leave a tip.

Well my experience of Wolfe's in very different. I have met suppliers there on 3 occasions and each one has shown Wolfe's to be a great venue for a civilised, but informal dinner or lunch. Indeed last year I went there also for a birthday lunch, and the staff could not have been more helpful. Wolfe's may be a bit old fashioned but that is far from a bad thing. Some of the dishes are weak on their construction, but overall it is a varied and well presented menu, the burgers in particular are good. Reasonable prices, a well aired interior and discreet but roomy booth type seating make it a relaxing choice - I recommend it

This is a restaurant definitely geared towards tourists and work nights out. My steak was overcooked, salad was not fresh, salad dressing was tasteless, no-one asked if the food was okay, croquet potatoes were like something from a school dinner, the decor is as old and tacky as the menu, and they have the cheek to automatically add 12.5% service charge to the bill.

Please do yourself a favour and avoid this relic of the 1970s. The chef clearly does not care about the food he's sending out of the kitchen, and the staff are obviously not interested.
