I have been to the Royal Thai a number of times and it has always delivered great food. You can take your own wine or beer - which means a substantially improved bill at the end (if you drink) and there is a Tesco and a number of off-licences close by. It is a little cramped and gets very busy - but always charming service and top cooking. They do a mean hot and sour soup!

I went to the Royal Thai last week with 2 friends, we had a table booked for 7pm but arrived to find a couple had taken our table. We explained we had booked a table, and the waitress simply laughed and said she thought we meant 7:30. However, we could clearly see in her book which was open in front of her that it was in fact booked for 7pm! She was completely unapologetic and merely asked us to hang around for 20 minutes for a table! When we asked to speak to the manager, she said that it was just her and the chef on duty that night. We definitely won't be returning to this place as the service was frankly appalling, and the waitress's attitude was such that she didn't even care!

I've been going her for years and have never experienced bad service, in fact i find the staff friendly and welcoming. My uncles girlfriend is Thai and has visited many restaurants during her trips to England, and has firmly said this one was the most authentic. At lunch you can get a 2 course meal for under £7! This is definitely one of my favourite Thai restaurants in London, the food is yummy (they willingly adapt anything for you if you are vegetarian), the portions are good and you can bring your own booze. A perfect stop before heading up to Camden to a gig or for a filling lunchtime treat.

Me and my girlfriend went to Royal Thai Restaurant yesterday.
And I am very disappointed about the service. Whilst Food was good, while portions not huge but ok for price. We got asked to leave as another couple was waiting for a table ! whilst we were still finishing our pot of tea. I was completely at awe as my ears heard:
"Sorry we need a table for 2". This totally killed the romantic dinner
I understand that they have very few tables but as we were the last of all tables to sit down and we ordered a decent 2 course meals I think it is terrible service.
It apparently is not the right place to a date. I will not return to the Royal Thai. There is better places all around

Discovered this restaurant quite a while ago - just live just around the corner. Was usually quite empty - now when I go past it is always busy. Great food, cheap and the people who run it are very nice. Have recommended it to friends and they love it..

excellent food - i usually get take away. pretty small restaurant that seats maybe 20-30 people in close proximity to each other. generally, there is nothing fancy about this place but good food at v reasonable price. (1 point off for dodgy music!)
Have your say
