I took my 2 daughters to this restaurant by chance as we were in the area & didn't really know where to go.
We had a mixed starter for 3 which was very good and all 3 had a different Thali which they were amenable to mixing around the actual menu - giving lamb passanda which wasn't included instead of another lamb dish & we all had peshwari nan instead of the plain nan at no extra cost.
2 beers each & the bill including service was £77.
I would definately return - very good food & service.

This is the worst service and restaurent ever been to. We went in to get a bite after a good night out and found the manager rude and arrogant. He tried to dictate to us how much we should spend, was rude answering questions about the ingredients of the food, was extremely on edge when we asked him to verify certain charges on the bill i.e. the poppadoms and chutney which was offered to us (without any price tags) as soon as we sat down, only to discover it on our bill at the end. When we asked why we hadn't been told it was chargeable he got extremely het up and started telling us that we only spent 25 pounds and were lucky to get served at all. Was quite shocked at this manner of customer service, wouldn't go again if hell froze over, I did manage to take my bottle of water home with me (I had paid 3.75 for it after all!!) and the final straw was when the manager followed us out of the restaurent and asked us if the cinema we'd gone to that night had been free of charge, in an extremely sarcastic and condescending manner. GOSH! very surprised, so shocked in fact that it actually makes me burst out laughing!! For your own safety DON'T GO THERE.

My Friday night has been ruined by appauling food, and extremely rude service. Things must have gone drastically downhill since 2006 - it must have been 15% capacity on a Friday evening. Poor show indeed. Very gutted.

My girlfriend and I tried Guffa for the first time on a Tuesday at about 18:30. (Sounds like a cheeky confession, doesn’t it?) Though quiet at that early hour it was busy by the time we left.
The interior is charming and neat, the staff friendly, almost obsequious. Our waiter thanked us for allowing him to pour our wine!
The menu is extensive, well designed and moderately priced. The pappadams and chutney were excellent, as was the naan. Her tandoori and my curry were nicely presented and quite tasty, if a bit mild. The okra side dish we ordered was the spiciest thing we had.
I recommend it if you are in the area, especially if you prefer the aesthetic of Upper St. to that of Chaple Mkt.
Have your say
