Well, it's funny to see the progression of reviews for Demartino over the years on this website. From excellent to poor and, sadly, I would have to agree. I have been going to Demartinos for several years now and it was always a great place, tons of atmosphere (everyone speaks italian and they leave the italian Serie A on the TV?...who cares!). And simply great food. Went there a few weeks ago, the manager had changed, the new one is somewhat cocky and the food? Well portions are smaller, prices are up and the food simply isn't as good. I was there on a Saturday night and it was half empty.

I ordered a pasta with wild mushroom sauce. The sauce itself was 'lacey' - as if it's been in the fridge for several days. The mushrooms tasted sour (like they were either canned or had gone off or both).

We obviously didn't eat the food. The waitress didn't bother to ask us why we had left our food so we volunteered to give feedback. She promised to find out but never got back to us.

While we were paying, the waiters decided to talk in Italian amongst themselves to share a joke (perhaps about another customer identifying their kitchen's ineptitude).

Well what can i say about Demartino apart from all excelence from the front of house to the kitchen i have eaten in numerous occasions and i can't stop going back, i like the way the restaurant has been refurbished and to see the chef still there his name is Suki, thank you for bringing good food to our country and a good taste to our mouth. The good thing about suki is that he is from Ecuador but yet has the touch of an all Italian chef.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times. This is the real deal!! Wholesome food, great value and a good atmosphere. I can not stop recommending this restaurant to my friends. Coming from an Italian background, I can vouch for the food being authentic, fresh and inventive. My only crticism is that the portions are too big!!

Once you are familiar with the staff, they bend over backwards to accommodate, especially the very likeable manager, Beppe!

This establishment is a great hidden gem!

We went to the restaurant based on a suggestion by the hotel we were staying at. We loved the ambiance of the place and we do eat Italian food often. We were all very disappointed with the food. The crab mango appetizer 3 of us had was terrible. The main courses were not much better my son's lasagna was not good, my brothers ravioli was swimming in oil, my veal dish was probably the best of a bad bunch and it was at best OK, I always ask myself would I go back and the answer for this restaurant is No.

To complete the other positive comments, it feels like Italy, staff arguing in a funny way, foods is delicious, as fresh and warm as the atmosphere of the place. As a foreigner, this restaurant is an evidence that there is no need for fashion and expensive restaurants to eat amazing food in London...London's food can Rock (sometimes)!!!!!
However, my -1 results from over-generous portions which might look sometime r unfinishable...I don't like waste, moreover if the food is excellent....

I strongly recommend this place

I had a very pleasant experience at this place. We ate here solely because we were in the area and it looked nice from the outside. I live in Italy and am familiar with Italian food and restaurants, and I can say it felt like being in Italy. The setting is pleasant and fresh, the menu sounds inticing, the food was nicely presented and the portions were huge, so no need to order multiple courses initially unless you still have an apetite after each course. My pasta fagioli was nice, my daughter's penne arrabiata was also good, though it contained some cream which is not the classic recipe. Friendly service with no pressure to vacate the table. Resonable prices for what you get. I'm happy to recommend this place.

Delicious, authentic italian food. Very imaginative menu; the crab and mango starter was fantastic! Not your average italian restaurant although tempers are displayed amongst the staff regularly. Friday lunchtime was absolutley packed out. Portions are generous - don't eat before you go!
