This park has been around since the Edwardian era, providing local residents with a green space to relax in sheltered from the urban sprawl. Brixton and Peckham are 15 minutes’ walk away, Camberwell and Dulwich are also nearby. Named after artist John Ruskin, who lived in the area, the park has tennis courts, a paddling pool and a football pitch. For those who aren’t interested in sporty activities, the ornamental flower beds and wildlife ponds provide distraction, and there is a child’s play area where dogs aren’t permitted. Its proximity to King’s College Hospital and Maudsley Hospital means there is a steady stream of students and staff visiting the park. In 2009 Ruskin Park was given a Green Flag Award, recognising it as a well-maintained green space. Volunteers also run regular walks and conservation events. The park is gated, opening at 7 am and closing before it gets dark.
