Not many of us will have ever climbed a mountain covered in solid ice. The closest most of us have got to chipping away at an ice wall with a pick is trying to get to that elusive box of Findus Crispy Pancakes in the back of the freezer. Gladly, Londoners now have the chance to see what climbing a wall of solid ice might really be like.
Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports in Covent Garden is home to London’s only ice wall, Vertical Chill. The wall runs from a refrigerated room and through the ground floor of the shop and has viewing windows all around it. Learn to Climb sessions cost £50 for an hour and they’re way more fun than chipping away at ice in your freezer for dreamy, frozen junk food.
