Where: Spencer House
It's been described as containing some of the finest neo-classical interiors in Europe, so fans of 18th century design, and anyone wishing to see an opulent aristocratic home from the era should pay Spencer House a visit. Built for the 1st Earl of Spencer (the great-great-great-great-grandfather of Princess Diana) it was completed in 1756 after 10 years of construction. The state rooms are filled with art, chandeliers and intricate decor, a good example being the Palm Room with its gilded columns emulating palm trees.
