Sip vermouth in an Italian bodega

That most versatile of drinks...

Where: Vermuteria

Vermouth is enjoying a revival thanks to hip Italian restaurants serving aperitifs and post-prandial cocktails made with the fortified wine. Whether dry vermouth served in martinis, or the rosso that characterises negronis, we're all for this versatile drink overtaking gin as the capital's favourite tipple.

Spearheading the drink's renaissance is Vermuteria, a bodega-style all-day bar and cafe serving Mediterranean small plates and stocking 50 varieties of vermouth. It's the brainchild of Anthony Demetre, formerly the chef of Soho's Arbutus and Mayfair's Wild Honey, where he frequently infused his own vermouths. At Vermuteria he has free reign to experiment further botanicals while offering elegant cocktails like the Adonis, with the subtly sweet Carpano Classico, Amontillado sherry and orange bitters.
