In partnership with the Institute of Physics, we present a dramatic work of art in the rarely-visited underground ice wells beneath the London Canal Museum. Artist Lyndall Phelps and physicist Dr. Ben Still have collaborated to produce this extraordinary piece, inspired by the work of particle physicists. The ice wells echo many aspects of the homes of particle detectors, some of which are beneath ice. The installation has grown out of Lyndall's interest in the beauty and mystery of particle detectors and the means of particle detection. Art, physics, and the amazing heritage of the ice wells combine in an immersive experience that will be magical and magnificent, in a unique location.
Descent into the ice wells involves negotiation of two fixed ladders. You must be physically fit to make the descent. Minimum age is 11. Hard hats (supplied) must be worn. Your footwear must give your feet some protection and not be able to fall off your feet. Sandals are not permitted.
You are strongly advised to book online in advance to avoid disappointment, as capacity is limited.
