Drawing from The Fan Museum collections, Globe Trotting offers fascinating insights into fan culture and fan production from a pan-global perspective...

Embarking on a virtual ‘world tour’ of fans, the exhibition comprises an eclectic array of hand fans originating from regions such as the Islands of the Indo/Pacific region, the Caribbean and the African continent.

Ethnographic examples are shown together with contemporary tourist ‘souvenirs’, revealing how makers of fans (irrespective of geographical location) have, throughout history, adopted remarkably similar construction techniques, materials and design aesthetics to produce fans of extraordinary accomplishment.

Admission to the exhibition includes entry to the permanent collection, featuring works by Dali and Sickert, and numerous rare fan leaves dating from the 17th century onwards.
