WILD STYLE
Released in 1983, Wild Style is widely regarded as the first and most important hip-hop movie ever made. Directed by Charlie Ahearn, the film gives a dramatic insider's view of the early underground hip-hop scene and the rise of graffiti and B-boy culture in Brooklyn, New York.

With an all-star cast featuring old school legends such as Grandmaster Flash, Fab 5 Freddy, the Cold Crush Brothers, and Rock Steady Crew, Wild Style truly captured the zeitgeist at a time when hip-hop was still unknown outside of NYC, and played a pivotal part in propelling it to the forefront of popular culture.

An absolute must-see for anyone interested in hip-hop music and culture, the film has created a lasting legacy and remains firmly relevant today.

MUSIC
To mark the 30th anniversary of the most influential hip hop film of all time, Oval Space is delighted to announce four very special artists who will be helping celebrate this special occasion with hip-hop only sets.
Hip hop selectors Patchwork Pirates will be joined by Eglo Records label boss and Rinse FM stalwart Alexander Nut, who has gained a reputation for championing a unique blend of experimental hip-hop and bass heavy sounds from the house and dubstep genres.
Also confirmed for a one-off DJ set is Ghostpoet, one of the most forward-thinking British artists to emerge in recent years. Described by The Independent as creating “sputtering beats, languid jazz vibes and subterranean whispers", Ghostpoet cites the Wild Style era as a key influence of his inimitable and experimental genre-blending sound.

Rounding up the line up is none other than BBC Radio 1 veteran Tim Westwood. Arguably one of the most influential hip-hop figures in the UK, Westwood is single-handedly responsible for introducing the genre to mainstream culture. From running a club night in the 80s (regularly attended by Run DMC no less), to bringing over Jay Z in 1997 to play at carnival, his knowledge and passion remain unrivalled.
