About the event

From 5 to 22 December, everyone’s invited to celebrate the festive season in London’s famous Trafalgar Square. See the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, join a torchlit procession for the Blessing of the Crib and enjoy the soothing sounds of carol singers.

Christmas Tree Lighting, 5 December, Trafalgar Square
The countdown to Christmas starts with the lighting of the world famous Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square on 5 December in Trafalgar Square. The tree is presented as a gift from the people of Norway to say thanks for Britain’s support during World War II, a historic tradition that has happened every year since 1947.

Blessing of the Crib, 8 December, Trafalgar Square
Join a torchlit procession at the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields as the choir and clergy bless the crib in a special ceremony in Trafalgar Square on 8 December. The crib is designed by Tomoaki Suzuki with figures inspired by Londoners from around the world and will be on display in the square throughout December.

Carol Singing, 9-22 December, Trafalgar Square
Come and enjoy warming festive tunes beneath the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square from Monday 9 to Sunday 22 December. More than 50 carol groups will be taking part, each singing for an hour. Performances take place from 4-8pm weekdays, and 2-6pm weekends.
