Christmas Tree Lighting, 5 December, Trafalgar Square
The countdown to Christmas starts with the lighting of the world famous Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square on 5 December in Trafalgar Square. The tree is presented as a gift from the people of Norway to say thanks for Britain’s support during World War II, a historic tradition that has happened every year since 1947.
