Stunning, rarely exhibited costumes from the collections of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation and the Benaki Museum from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. It is the largest and most representative of one of the great costume traditions in Europe ever to have been mounted in the UK.
Guided tours by the curator on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12-12.45pm. Further guided tours for groups available on request.
During the period of the exhibition the Hellenic Centre will hold lectures on costumes, textiles, the reception of indigenous tradition and the history and culture of Greece after independence.Some events, parallel to the exhibition, will also take place at the British Museum.
A fully illustrated catalogue with seven essays by specialists in the field will be available for sale as will a variety of items created specially for the exhibition.
